Your door is the first thing people will see when they visit your home, so it is understandable that you will want to keep it looking great for as long as you are living there. Composite door maintenance is very simple as they require very little aftercare to keep them looking as good as the day you buy them. However, there are some easy things you can do to ensure your doors look good throughout their life.

Composite Door Maintenance and Cleaning

To maintain the outer appearance of your door, all you need to do is clean it with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Just wipe it down and focus on any dirt that may have built up. Do this with the door both open and closed to make sure you reach all the edges and get any hidden dirt. It is really important that you don’t use any abrasive cleaners or rough sponges to clean your door, as this can damage its finish. To deal with any stubborn stains that soapy water can’t manage, use a non-abrasive cleaner. Once you have washed the door, dry it with a clean and dry cloth to remove any excess water.

Glass Cleaning

You can use soapy water to clean the windows of your door too; using a microfibre cloth to do this is best as it will avoid any unwanted streaks and lint on the glass. You can also use general glass cleaner on the glass sections of your door to add a bit of extra shine.

Hardware Maintenance

The hardware of your door may also need some light maintenance to keep it looking good and performing well. You can wipe down handles, hinges, letterboxes, knockers or other hardware features with warm soapy water; just make sure to wipe off any excess water afterwards. Again, don’t use any types of abrasive cleaners as these might cause damage. Very occasionally, you may need to adjust the screws on the hinges to ensure the door is opening and closing smoothly. Every six months or so, it is worth using a lubricant on the central barrel and screws of the hinge.

Lock Maintenance

The easiest way to maintain the lock of your composite door is to ensure you are using it properly. Make sure that when the door is closed, the top and bottom locking points are both engaged. This will not only help to look after the lock but will also provide added security. You can also keep your lock working correctly by making sure to lubricate its working parts at least once a year. Spray the lubricant into the lock and onto the key, then turn the key in the lock several times to spread the lubricant out.

Composite door maintenance is really simple, which is one of the many benefits of choosing this type of door. Because they are so easy to maintain and look after, it makes them a great choice if you want a door that will last without you needing to spend a long time on aftercare.
